About Us

Ventura Brush Goats

For almost 10 years, Ventura Brush Goats has been a leading provider of targeted grazing services in Ventura County and throughout Southern and Central California. We operate a managed herd of more than 1,000 goats and sheep, specializing in large-scale vegetation management, wildfire fuel reduction, and ecological land restoration.

Our primary clients include homeowners’ associations (HOAs), city governments, counties, fire departments, schools, other public agencies as well as private lands. We provide a proven, reliable, and cost-effective alternative to mechanical clearing and herbicides, helping communities meet fire safety, compliance, and land management goals.

Proven Fire Mitigation Benefits

Goats are uniquely effective at reducing wildfire risk. They consume dense brush, thistles, poison oak, and other invasive species that are costly and difficult to remove by hand. By targeting seed heads and reducing fuel load, goats disrupt regrowth cycles and provide long-lasting vegetation control. Their ability to work on steep and uneven terrain makes them especially valuable in hard-to-access areas where machinery cannot safely operate.

Soil Health and Environmental Advantages

Unlike mechanical clearing, goats minimize soil disturbance, preventing erosion and runoff. Through natural grazing and manure deposition, they increase soil fertility and water retention. Their hooves break down plant matter into the soil, adding carbon. The horizontal ‘contour’ trails they create on slopes prevents gullies and vertical water erosion from forming or worsening. This integrated approach improves the resiliency and long-term quality of the landscape while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations.
